Police Thank Residents After Lewisham High Street Incident

Police have taken the time to express their gratitude to Lewisham residents for the patience as they dealt with a major incident on Lewisham High Street. Policeshop were called at about 10:45am on Thursday to a disturbance at an address. The cordon was put in place as a precaution to protect the public and the occupant of the building.

The Metropolitan Police Service worked in conjunction with the London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service to contain the situation. Officers were able to gain entry to the property at 2:30 a.m. and apprehend a man inside the house. He was arrested for affray and threats to kill and further taken to the hospital for some checks. Detective Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawri, the Area Commander for the Met in South East, commented on public concerns. “I realise this has caused some concern to residents and I would like to thank them for their patience. So, to put people’s minds at rest, there were no hostages, and the HOBS (High Risk Offender Behaviour Strategy) team came into contact with a man, who was thought to be suffering from mental health problems.” Police noted that the public and the person in question were the force’s chief concern during the entire incident. The current investigations are still ongoing as the authorities try to establish the details of the incident.
